REFUL Research
Study for Active Women
Do you perform more than 3 hours of exercise per week?
Do you have absent or irregular menstrual periods?
Do you have a history of stress fractures?
Do you always feel tired or feel like you are always injured?
You may be at risk for the Female Athlete Triad, a syndrome of three
interrelated conditions present in many physically active women: an
energy deficit, menstrual disturbances, and bone loss. If you are
experiencing any of these problems, you may also be eligible to
participate in REFUEL: The Active Women?s Study II, a unique study
being conducted in the Women?s Exercise and Bone Health Laboratory at
the University of Toronto. We are investigating the effects of
increased calorie intake on improving menstrual status and bone health
in physically active women with either irregular menstrual cycles, or
signs of bone loss. Individuals volunteering for this study will have
their bone mineral density, resting metabolic rate, body composition,
fitness levels, and energy balance tested. All participants will
receive financial compensation.
For additional information about this unique opportunity you can: open
the attached word document, visit our website at www.refuel2.com (or
refuelfemaleathletes.ca),
e-mail us at active.womenstudy@utoronto.ca,
or call the project coordinator, Jason Vescovi, Ph.D. at 416.978.3726.
