On June-20th I will be holding a Hill Climbing Skills Clinic.
Purpose - To develop skills that will help improve your climbing skills. This is aimed at all skill levels from beginner to 'well seasoned'. We will discuss tactics, training techniques, and reinforce what makes a good climber.
Location - Heritage / King Side Rd. (Terra Cotta)
Time - 9:00am
Duration - 2+hrs depending on number of attendees.
Talking about hills, here are a few more to recall for Gerry and Helen in that region: Le Cirque de Navacelles near Millau,France. I only wish it had been a sunny day.
Is there any skill level for this clinic? I know that Frank is a Sportif guy,, will it be all Sportif? I was hoping I could benefit from this clinic, but its only my second year riding and I ride with Touring 2. Can I attend this?
Pierre & Anita - thanks for all your great support in leading today's Hill Climbing skills clinic. It was well attended by BCC members & heard a lot of good feedback on session from participants - including some great new tips that myself & Lyne picked-up from both of you today! Now our members will be ready for some challenging real hill climbs in Europe per photos posted by Gerry & Pierre D on forum.
Also thanks for your kind offer to extend your professional coaching to other members that want to learn more on a 1-1 basis.
Frank - understand that there was a mix-up in start times & that you were in parking lot @ 8 am today...no problem as scheduling issues happen. Appreciate all your efforts on organizing & the documentation that you posted on the BCC fourm....it was a great initiative & we should consider repeating it next year.
Understand that John B has taken some photos from the clinic & will be sharing them so we can see all our good form & technique that we learned today.
Firstly, I'd like to second Wayne's words of appreciation to Pierre and Anita. It was a great session for all of us on Winston Churchill in Terra Cotta this morning.
Because I was a student today trying to avoid relegation to group 3, I didn't get any photos of the other students in action, but did get a few of Pierre and the, more or less, attentive students!
PS to Frank: I know you were there a little early and missed us, but I think you still owe Pierre a beer (or two). Thanks for the document you posted before the clinic. I know I'm not the only one who found it very interesting and helpful.
While europe has no question difficult climbs that will push you to the outer limits North America has its fair share, that I"ve ran into,1}Stowe Vermont the infamous Smugglers Notch, start in Stowe you"ll cycle past the ski resorts then all hell will hit you, think the last 20 meters of bell school line now you have 10kms of it too climb, this climb was in the ole tour de trump it shocked and hurt many euro riders{2 MT.Washington,New England{pikes peak}just plain brutal,so some of most brutal steepest climbs are not all found in europe but in NE north america When in Vancouver tackle Grouse mtn 2 hrs of 8 per cent and thats if your a good climber!
Check out the Highlander Tour in the Finger Lakes region of New York State: http://www.highlandercycletour.com/ Up to 11,000 ft of climbing in one day, grades up to 23%. Less than 4 hours away.
